Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 13 March 2024 – The Director of the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) is pleased to announce that the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe has officially ratified the Agreement for the Establishment of the African Legal Support Facility. Upon receipt of the instrument of ratification, this will be the final step towards São Tomé and Príncipe's full membership in the ALSF. This not only demonstrates the strong relationship between São Tomé and Príncipe and the ALSF but also acknowledges the significance of the support provided by the latter.

On 1 March  2024, the President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe ratified the Agreement for the Establishment of the African Legal Support Facility, through Presidential Decree no. 11/2024. The Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe has a longstanding relationship with the ALSF and has collaborated on various projects. The ALSF is currently providing advisory assistance and capacity building for the São Tomé and Príncipe Government in the petroleum and energy sectors. The ALSF eagerly anticipates the ongoing provision of legal and technical support in several areas, including commercial transactions, litigation, capacity building, public-private partnerships (PPPs), energy, minerals, natural resources, and sovereign debt restructuring. This support will drive positive change and encourage sustainable development on the African continent.
