Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 28 June 2021 - The Management Board of the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) met via videoconference. The African Legal Support Facility (“ALSF” or “ Facility”) wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Gaston Kenfack DOUAJNI, the outgoing chairperson of the ALSF Management Board, for his dedicated and distinguished service to the ALSF.
Dr. DOUAJNI is a Cameroonian magistrate and the Director of Legislation at the Ministry of Justice, Cameroun, as well as President of the Association pour la Promotion de l’Arbitrage en Afrique (APAA), a non-profit based in Cameroun that supports the development of arbitration in Africa.
Dr. DOUAJNI served on the ALSF Board for a term of three years, from 30 June 2018 to 29 June 2021. He was elected as chairperson of the Board in 2019. As a member of the Board, Dr. DOUAJNI contributed immensely to advancing the mission of the Facility. During his tenure as chairperson, the ALSF expanded its activities to more than 45 African countries and successfully held its first ever High Level Meeting (HLM) of the members of the ALSF. His belief in the purpose of the Facility and his tireless efforts contributed to the extension of the term of the ALSF for a second fourteen-year period.
The Director & CEO of the ALSF, Mr. Stephen Karangizi noted that: “Dr. DOUAJNI has made a lasting contribution to ensuring that the ALSF serves its beneficiaries in Africa with the relevant legal, capacity building and technical assistance programs that truly advance our mission.” He added that: “the ALSF has benefitted tremendously from his leadership, collaboration, energy, good ideas, practical support, and drive to make things happen.”
About the ALSF
Created by the African Development Bank in 2010, the ALSF supports governments in negotiating complex commercial transactions, providing legal and technical assistance in public-private partnership projects across the oil and gas, mining and energy sectors, and covering sovereign debt issues and creditor litigation.
