ALSF Supports the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in expanding power generation and increasing energy mix

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, 23 January 2023: On 16 January 2023, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire (the “Government”) and AMEA Power announced the signature of the project agreements for the development of a 50 MW photovoltaic project to be located in Bondoukou, in the northeast region (the “Bondoukou Project”).

The African Legal Support Facility (the “ALSF” of “Facility”) is pleased to have supported, together with the law firm Trinity International AARPI, the Government of Côte d’Ivoire (represented by the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy with a team led by M. Moussa Koné, deputy director general of the energy department) on the negotiation of the concession and related agreements for the development of the Bondoukou Project.

The Bondoukou Project is Côte d’Ivoire’s first independent solar energy project and will generate more than 85 GWh of energy per year, which represents the use of about 350,000 people. It is part of the Government strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to 42% by 2030. Representing an investment of approximately US$60 million, the Bondoukou Projet will be fully implemented and funded by AMEA Power through a Build-Own-Operate and Transfer structure.

The ALSF has been assisting the Government of Côte d’Ivoire in the power sector for several years and the signature of the project agreements of the Bondoukou Project is one more example of the trust placed by the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in the ALSF’s services and mission.
